The Survivor Who Got His Dictator Convicted
In 1988 Hissène Habré's political police threw a Chadian accountant into a cell barely two and a half square metres wide. He came out alive, gathered hundreds of testimonies, hid them under his house, and never let go. Twenty-six years later, in Dakar, Chad's former president was sentenced to life by the courts of another country, a first in history. The victims are still waiting for most of their reparations.
