The Forgotten Bombing in the Ténéré Desert
On 19 September 1989 a DC-10 out of Brazzaville exploded over the Ténéré. One hundred and seventy dead from eighteen countries, the deadliest attack ever carried out against France, and almost nobody remembers it. The son of a passenger forced Libya to pay one million dollars for every victim, whatever their passport, and one hundred and forty men from Agadez built by hand a circle of one hundred and seventy mirrors. Thirty-seven years later, the daughters of the dead are still waiting for a verdict.
